Vitani could feel her walls coming down just standing there in his grasp. She giggled as he kissed her forehead. Adam brought out a whole other side to her. Around him she was never in a bad mood. He was her happiness. She took his hand and sat down next to him with her legs over his. “Adam please,” she turned to him. “You know that you can tell me anything. It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad, I’ll understand.” She put her free hand over his and looked into his eyes. “All I ask is for you not to beat around the bush and just come out and say it.”
Don’t beat around the bush. Got it. It was that easy, right? Wrong. Adam still felt a bit nervous, his insides shaking while is exterior made him seem unmoved. Still, though. Vitani’s eyes gave him the strength he needed, as it always had. And she was right- whatever it was he said, she’d always understand. Because that’s just how his girlfriend was. One hand laying on her outstretched leg, Adam leaned forward and let his other hand grab her cheek gently. His body leaned towards hers and his lips pressed against her mouth gently and softly, barely touching them together. Then his mouth traveled to her ear, where he breathed out quietly, his breath against her neck. “I love you,” he whispered. There. Done. Finally. He silently awaited a response, his palm still cradling her face.
Grabbing a jacket from her closet Vitani ran out of her room and down the stairs. She was running late. It was very unusual, at least when it came to Adam. She was normally at least ready five minutes early before the two hung out. Slipping her jacket on the girl stepped out of the warm building and into the cold. Following the leaf covered path she passed the cafeteria. Her hands were balled in a fist in each pocket to try and keep warm. It almost made her want to turn back and tell Adam to come to her, but she didn’t. As she got closer to the lake she saw him there waiting. A smile formed upon her face as she watched him pace. It was adorable. “Hey you,” she said as she finally reached him and before her lips brushed against his.
Adam smiled gently back at her, glancing over her features and realizing how damn lucky he was to have caught her in his grasp and kept her all this time. As she got closer, he let his hand wrap around her waist and grip it as their soft lips pushed against each other. He let go of Vitani and laughed slightly, before grabbing her cheek and kissing her forehead. God, as much as he wanted to stop, he couldn’t. He loved kissing her, loved having her by his side. “Hey, V,” he replied, sitting down on the bench and rubbing his head absentmindedly. It was as if she made him a weaker person, and as much as that part of him made him irritated, he was thankful to have her. “So I kind of just called you out here to tell you something, and I mean,” he continued nervously, “It’s not anything drastic but it’s been bothering me,” Adam dragged out. He wanted to explain, to talk more- but God knows Adam wasn’t one to get all of his words out well, so he waited a second so he could mash his words together correctly in his head first.
Pacing. Back and forth, back and forth. Adam couldn’t help it. As he waited for Vitani on the bench near the lake, the college boy couldn’t sit still. Every muscle in his body was shaking. Not visibly, but internally. His brain was telling him to walk away, tell Vitani that he had too much homework to ignore, but (as very cliche as it sounded) his heart was telling him to sit his ass down and wait for his girlfriend. So that’s exactly what he did.
For the past view months, Adam and Vitani had been spending all of their free time together. In good ways, too. No sex, just the two of them being together- whether they were studying, partying, or cuddling. Lately, things have begun to change, though. Every second he spent away from her was painful, and even if he hadn’t seen her for a measly two days, he’d start to miss her. And so, in conclusion, he knew it was time to say those three key words. Hence, why he asked Vitani to meet him out on this cold day.
It honestly doesn’t feel that different from being 16.
Well at least now we can go see R-rated movies together, right?
